Where Do I Start ?

Hi all ! My name is Trish. I've been a light runner, meaning nothing more than a 5K, for about a year now. I love competing in 5K's. My husband recently signed us up for a relay team adventure race in August and I am the swimmer. The swim is 2.5 miles in open water. I have been to the pool 5 times in that amount of time, I've tried to learn some technique and how to breath with my face in the water. That is still a process. :)

I guess where I'm struggling is training. I've been told I need to be in the pool 5 days a week. I've been told that I need only 3 days a week. I want to be able to swim the distance by August 4th with no problem, but I also want to maintain my running and not wear myself out. All I know to do when I get to a pool is to swim until I can't swim anymore, and I have a feeling there is more to it than that.

Would someone be able to help me with a schedule and tell me what I should be doing in the pool or where I can get some workouts?

Thanks !

In my opinion (kind of anewbie swimmer and triathlete too) 2.5 miles is not an insignificant distance. From the sound of it your a fairly new to swimming too. For this distance I think more swimming = more better. Your running will suffer because you won't be able to do it as much. That's just how it is.
