| HR/breathing rate: bike vs run I am trying to find some general info and am having no luck.
My question is three-fold: 1) While I dont know my "official" RHR or MHR, they are likely 'round 60-65 and 180-190, respectively. What concerns me is that just putting on my shoes rockets my HR into the 90s and walking sends my HR to 120. My typical AHR (running) is around 163-167 pretty much no matter what I do. This is way outside of what most folks that have talked to recommend. Is this a concern? 2) While my AHR on the bike is resonably less than my AHR on my feet (as expected approx. 145 on bike, 165 on feet), I breathe WAY more rapidly and WAY more deeply on the bike than running. (I should note that I am 37 yr old, biker from youth, 185lbs, training for tri's for 6-7 months, exercize-induced asthma controlled for 3-years on advair and the 'buterol (very occasional symptoms related to non-compliance and secondary illness but otherwise drugs have literally changed my life), only one sprint under my belt with 20mph-7.5min/mile speeds.) To reiterate, my heart rate is quite high while running, while my breathing is relaxed and shallow (relative). On the other hand, on the bike my heart rate is considerably lower than running, while my breathing is rapid and deep. I would even go so far as to say that my HR limits my speed while running, while my O2 intake limits my speed while biking. How can this be? 3) I never check my actual resting heart rate (immediately on waking without sitting up) but my HR as I am sitting here is over 70 (maybe even 80 as I have 4 hard days behind me (and weights not an hour ago)). This seems a little high. In the past, I have had very low sitting HR (in the low 60s) but now adays it never seems to go down. I am being a little dramatic, as I am not really worried, but I do want to perform well and would like some SOLID advice on HR training. I mean, everyone sez "GET A HR MONITOR" but there doesnt seem to be a concensus as to how to use it. Please, some one point me towards some evidence-based, HR training
