Icon11 Off-season -what sort of triathlete are you, and what do you do in the off-season?

Just wondering how long your off-season is? I'm an Olympic triathlete/duathlete and have been training "seriously" for one year. Had a 2 month off-season last year (Oct, Nov) as the first big race was in mid-May in 2007. This season will be long - last race in mid Sept. Any suggestions for how long to make an off-season and what to do in it?

What's an "off season"? *kidding* Sorry, I live in the US Virgin Islands and train 7/365. I do have slower months but during those I maintain a base by running 6 miles twice a week and 13 once a week. I bike or bike race every Sunday. Fortunately I work about .5 miles from an Olympic pool and try to swim 2-3 times per week.

On season I add about 30-50% to all those.

Hmmm... that sounds a bit like my on-season!*@! I guess that's why you're an "ironman" and I'm "just" an Olympian! (Wink wink).

I'm not a serious competitor and mostly compete to complete. This means my training is lackadaisical at best. Just proof that anyone can be an Ironman :)

Last year following my half iron I began doing alot of core work and I hit to weights for my legs. I lifted about twice a week. I also did some spin classes (chicago is cold in the winter), ran about 3 times a week and worked on my swim stroke and tried to get a little more efficient. I think the lifting helped and by continuing to run and ride it helps make it functional strength. My off season is about Nov - April.
