When to Consume Protein

When is it best to consume protein after a weight lifting workout? What about after a cardio workout? 5-10 mins? 10-20? Longer? Not at all?

Protein

I use a supplement that has a 4-1 carb protein ratio. It has been suggested to me that you ingest the post workout supplement (protein or other) within 30min. of completing your workout. During this time your muscles are more able to absorb the protein to use in the rebuilding. I forget the exact scientific reasoning, but 1/2 and hour seems pretty much to be the norm. After this time the muscles don't absorb things as quickly and a lot of the protein will pass through your system unabsorbed.

Protein coupled with carbs is a great way to help your muscles repair faster. You will be able to work harder in subsequent workouts.
