Nice Workout

If I do say so myself. In case you didn't read my introduction, I decided to sign up for my first triathlon on Oct 1st. My workouts have been pretty crappy since giving blood about 2 weeks ago, but today it went great. I live on the course so I thought I would do a race ~distance brick. I did the bike course in 43:30 (12 miles). I was on a mountain bike and riding the sidewalks in the dark, then ran 2.90 miles in 22:21. I had been struggling to run a 7:50 pace for a 5K without the bike beforehand, but today I felt like I could go forever. Hopefully I can walk tomorrow. I'm thinking I will be able to break my goal of 1:30 for the sprint.

New PR in the pool today. 750 meters in !6:48. Should the time really change much for an open water swim in a big pond?

Yes, your time will improve. Factors that will effect you are:
- Mass starts & groups will slow you down. You'll have to swim around, over and through others and you'll get kicked, bumped, knocked and punched by others trying to get around you. Don't let this scare you. It's not a big deal as the contact is always accidental and mostly just a distraction and can throw you off your rhythm.
+ Adrenaline will make a huge difference. You'll naturally be faster due to the flight or fight hormone.
+ Indiividual and mass drafting will allow you to follow in leading swimer(s) wakes. When the water is pushed forward and moved in the direction you're going, you're progress is naturally easier.

Good luck. Go get 'em.

Plus you do not have to switch directions every 25 yards.
