dd's first Olympic Tri

Itwas great! The race took place at Lake Geneva, Wi. We got started one hour late because race day people were signing up and picking up there packets. By the time we got into the water the wind had picked up and the waves were rolling in pretty good and it was cold out. Late I fould out from my wife who had talked to the race director that they had pulled about 60 people out of the water who needed help. I did a lot of extra training in open water and it really paid off. I neved stuggled at all and I had a pretty good time of 35.55 for my first .93m swim. I was really happy when I looked at my watch. I made it in and out T1 in about 2:17. The swim started out going uphill for the first few miles. The bike course had a lot of uphill parts and it was real windy. The course was 26.9 m because they had to change the course because of road construction. I came in in 1:30.09. Not what I had planned, but I would take it today. In T2 I was out in 1:31. Not bad, we had a good run to get out of the transistion. The run started up hill for the first 2 miles. My quads were on fire and cramping, but I ran through it. Not a great time on the run (60.31), but I was happy to be done. Overall time was 3:10.19. I was 16 out of 24 in th 50-54 age group. The news gets better. I watched my friend do Ironman Madison, Wi. the next day. It was unbelievable. He did it in 12:32. The next day he got us both signed up for the Ironman for next year, so I am now committed. I will have to workout harder next year. Yes!!!! ddguier

welcome to Ironman! Sounds like you had a great race! I have a couple of friends who did IM Wisconsin, too. They finished right around that time frame as well. I heard the day was rough!

Good job on the race. Did you use a wetsuit for the swim? Sounds like the bike was rough with the wind. Did it rain at all?

Good luck on the IM training for next year and I hope to see you at one of the halfs. Keep us up to date on what you are doing!

I did use a wetsuit on the swim. Most of the people there did. It didn't rain on us, but it felt like it was going to. When I got off the bike it was only about 62*.
