Stupid Alarm Clock!

Well, I had signed up for a sprint this past weekend. It was the second of the series where I had done the one last month. Before I left for my evening shift on Friday, I got my transition bag ready, filled the water bottle, etc. Everything was good to go. I got off work and home by 10:30 pm, set my alarm clock for 5 am and went to bed. Before I know it, my husband is saying "what time is your race this morning?" I replied with "what time IS it?" I looked over and the clock said 7:45. No chance of making it there in time. My alarm clock had either failed me or I had inadvertantly turned it off. So frustrating!!!!

So, to punish myself, I set out on a sixteen mile run (my personal furthest). The gods weren't with me that day though. My iPod had turned on in my purse and drained the battery, and it was ungodly hot and humid that day. At mile 14, I somewhat lost my bearings for about a minute and then gathered myself back in. By mile 16, I asked myself it I had the capacity in me to carry on for another 10 if it were the race. Amazingly, the answer was yes. Granted I was doing about 9:45 - 10 min miles, and walked about 10 minutes total, I still had some left in me. I wasn't dead that night, nor was I sore the next morning.

Kick butt IM! 16@9:45's is smokin' in my book! Sorry you missed your race. How can you possibly sleep until 7:45? My bio alarm gets me up about 4 every morning and by 5 I'm feeling guilty for sleeping in!

I ran 7 @ 10:39's this morning. I'll be happy to run tomorrows 18 at 12's. My run will be a 3 x 6 mile loop and there's a wicked 12% grade for .5 miles at mile 2. Once is bad, twice hurts and thrice kills :)

I don't know how I slept so long, other than that I was beat down exhausted! I worked overtime and covered a shift for another guy so I worked 60 hours last week. Needless to say, I was tired!

I am with Scott, bio-clock 4:30 for me. If there is a race, it is not an issue, becuase I am running 500 thoughts a second at 4:35 and could not just even lay in bed. Usually for a race too, I will get up at 4:00 to eat some oatmeal, that by 8:00am is pure fuel.

Hot and muggy. That explains Indiana this week. I went out yesterday for a 6.5 mile run and was soaked by mile 2. Crazy people who go out jogging at 5pm or so, with the heat index still over 100!

Time now to go out and get a quick run in.

Next time skip work!

I don't know how you guys get up so early every day, I try to get up at 5 every day, but I usually only manage it twice a week, and I end up doing bricks of an evening to make it up!
I live in Brisbane, Australia where it is hot and muggy every day of the year!
I have been doing tris for about 12 months, and for the first 6 months I went out too hard, saw a little improvement to start off with, then plateaued after a couple of months and started to get a few niggly injuries (tendonitis, plantar fasciaitis), after spending the last 6 months doing base/build training and starting off at struggling doing 7 miles at about an 11-12 min/mile pace, I am now comfortably doing 7 miles in about 55 mins! Patience pays off!!
