Tri training info

I am interested in getting into a more structured training program. Does anyone know of a website that has training plans available, preferably for free? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Currently I do all 3 activities quite frequently, but I would like to be able to train to do each faster. When I train now, I simply go out and bike for an hour or so, or I will run for a while, or swim laps. What can I do to make each session more effective? fartlek? intervals? sprinting? Thanks for any input.

That has a decent beginner triathlon workout. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to put your own workouts together based off your individual abilities.

My suggestion is get a copy of SERIOUS Training for endurance athletes. I'm just getting back into triathlon after a long layoff, and I've found this book extremely useful in helping me get a training program together. I think I got mine on Amazon.

A few people are good about speed work which is the key to getting faster. Most people (me included) are not. There's nothing fun about this type of workout. My advise: Find a workout partner that will challenge you. Hill work doesn't feel like hill work when you're just trying to keep up. I find it helps me to do races in the individual disciplines. Wanna run faster? Find a 5k, 10k or half marathon in your area a couple of times a month and put your heart into it. If there aren't any races in your area, make your own. We do that often here. We'll get a pack together and call it a workout but everyone knows it's a race :) Good Luck!
