Training Logs

Does anyone have an opinion on training logs?

How much info is enough? I can get a bit anal and let things get totally out of control, so I want to try and keep my training log as basic as possible without it being a waste of time.

What are the essentials of a log?

I just use the Polar Training diary that came with my s720i HRM. It can get pretty detailed but doesn't have too. When I wear the HRM, race or have numerous excercies stored in the watch I download them directly into my PC. Otherwise I just enter the excercise time and distance in the appropriate day. HTH
