Training for the slow older Athelete needs advice

Hi All,

I'm a returning older athelet who mainly ran in the 1980-90's but also did some Tri's.

I did consided my self a middle of the pack runner, best 10k was 44:45 when I was 40 and 4:05 for the marathon.

I'm 61 now and my goal is just finish a Triathlon, I have been out of traing due to health problems, arthritis and other things.

My problem I would like some advice on traing and recovery times. I use to run every other day with a long run on the weekend.

Now it seems I need two days rest between running or swimming. Right now I'm running 4 miles at a 10min pace and take 2 days off, then swim 1000 yds and do a upper body work out.

If I try to do more my muscles don't feel rested and are sore, so don't cooperate! I realize I need to lose at least 20lbs, I'm 5'-11 and 200 lbs but hoping that will come off as I run more.

I would apprciate any advice on excercise or nutrition (vitimins / herbs) or streching or meditation for a "old back of the packer" with sore muscles

Bob
