pedals

I've done one year of Olympic distance triathlons. I'm upgrading my bike this winter and am wondering about pedals. What type do most triathletes use? I've come from mountain biking and used Speedplay Frogs, so I'm used to tons of float. What do people recommend?

Thanks for the input.

Sean

pedals

Hi Sean! I have used Look pedals all season and really like them. They, too, have alot of float and I find them easy to get in and out of. I also like that they have a larger cleat than most of the pedals/cleats out there....makes it feel like a larger area to push down on (may just be a mental thing for me). I know a number of people, my coach included, who use Speedplays and have great success with them. Hope this helped! Joan

Sean,

It is really your preference. In my tri-club I see all kinds. Some people swear by Speedplay. I personally like the clips I have had for almost 8 years! They are the kind Lance Armstrong has used until this year. The only reason I want to step up now, is that I want to reduce weight on my bike, and the new Shimano pedals (Lance's new ones) are weighted...so that they always hang in such a fashion that you don't have to ever kick them in to place. They hang in the same spot. Also, these new ones have a larger base which I like.
