Cold Water issues with swimming!

Hiya,

I've just been looking at your excellent website.

I'm getting more and more into doing Triathlons… and have one this Sunday.

I have a really bad problem with cold water. I have a very low body fat content and feel the cold terribly - to the extent that I've actually passed out in the past during cold river crossings whilst trekking.

I have a wet suit but the water temperature this weekend is a reported 15 degrees.
This will be the coldest I've encountered… previously I struggled quite badly in 18 degrees.

Do you have any suggestions of anything I can possibly do that might make this swim possible…. I'm keen to compete but don't really want to pass out half way round and drown!!!

Any suggestions??

The only thing I can think of is drink some hot tea or hot water before you jump in the water. That will get your body temperature up. Wear warm clothes before your jump also. Make sure you wear neopene hoodie as well. This is my non-scientific response. I am sure someone else will be able to give you some other recommendation. Oh..and may be you can check it out with your doctor. Is it the lack of body fat that makes you pass out? Or something else?

Besides drinking some hot drink. You can urinate exactly when you enter in the water. For that reason I don't leave my wet suit to any friend, and neither use the one of anybody.
This issue seems some nasty, but it is very effective when the water this very cold one (less 62ºF)

FORBIDDEN WITH LOAN SUITS OR IN SOME WATER
