| Re: Searching for triathlon coach with experience w/ gastric bypassathlete I'd be interested in sharing information and experiences as well. I am
a three time Ironman finisher who underwent an esophagectomy almost two
years ago for esophageal cancer, so I know some of the problems
associated with having a reduced stomach (dumping, etc.). I am back in
training, albeit at a much reduced level compared to pre-surgery days. I
know its going to be a major challenge to take in enough calories as I
increase my training volume. So far in training I have had no problems
with strictly liquid nutrition (i.e. Cytomax), but I have yet to go for
any long rides (>2.5 hrs) or runs (>1.25 hrs) where I might consider
something more substantial in the way of nutrition. My guess is that
the old adage to stick with what works for you in your training for race
nutrition applies to us. That said, we need to experiment as we
increase our training volumes, so keep in touch and let me know what
seems to work or not work for you.
