Profile Airstryke 2000 (older model) aerobar

I have an older model Profile Airstryke 2000 aerobar. The clamps on
one side are knurled, but I can't remember if they came with shims
that fit into the knurling or if the knurling is meant only for grip.
Any info would be appreciated.
