All races closed out?

I'm glad that tri's have become more popular but this is ridiclous. I went
online Jan 2nd to sign op for races and damn near everything is of course
closed out. This can't be good for the long term prospects of the sport. I
think there are a few tri producers out there that need some competition.
In my area the primary producer has no dates left for any races, of course
they don't want to canablize from their own dates so there simply will be
no more races.
Lots of people will seen no reason to train, buy products etc. if they
can't get in a race. Whitewater anyone?

Re: All races closed out?

Are you in a club? My club runs regular events for members, and we
some times have interclub challenges with some neighbouring clubs. I
know how you feel, I missed a big race last year because all the spots
were filled (5000+). I tried to enter six weeks before the race, when
I realised my training and preparation was ok, but by then it was too
late. Now I have an insider at the event management Co. that runs all
the tri's in my area, so I shouldn't miss out again.

Good luck anyway!

Dom.

Re: All races closed out?

I know how you feel-I wanted to evaluate my fitness a bit more and waited to
register for the Philly Olympic distance. Decided I was there and went to
register mid-January, Olympic distance was closed; the race isn't until the
end of June! I know some sprint tris that you have to get on opening day as
they can close out in less than a week.

Re: All races closed out?

My biggest problem with having to register so early is that what if
you end up with an injury and cannot compete? I have already
registered for 5 tris for the year and spent a lot of $$$$ ... now
just hoping everything goes as planned!

The otherside to this is that there are so many events now, you do
have a lot of choices.
