seeking advice needed for new HR monitor

I need a new heart rate monitor and when I went to the store, my jaw
dropped. In the last year they have almost doubled in price here in the US.
What's going on?

Please recommend one that:
- keeps avg HR
- kCAL total
- can set zones
- and ideally does all the above for different time periods (records each of
the above for my swim then a different one for my bike and a different one
for my run - multi-lap I think it's called) I need the same thing for
warmup versus tempo workouts,...

I gave up on my Timex because, although I really liked them, they kept
getting foggy after about 4 months of use and were unusable afterwards.

Many thanks!

The USD has crapped out. Something to do with fiscal responsibility and risk management I hear...

So the US's fiscal policy has affected my running purchases?

Yes. Stop buying that crap, and take it in the arse, and it'll all make
sense.

Take a Polar, and change your president next time if you want the USD to be
considered real money again.

Re: seeking advice needed for new HR monitor

Did you look at the Polar HRs?-many are reasonable, check Performance Bike
or Campmor.

Hey, I told you:

"Take a Polar, and change your president next time if you want the USD to be
considered real money again."

That was a real advice.

Polar are the best. HRM are their core and only business.
The best athletes in the world have Polar HRM.
And my S610i has flawlessly done its job for the past 4 years - giving all
the stats I could dream.
For any serious athlete, Polar is the right choice.

Now there is the problem of the price.

Polar are manufactured in Finland, which is situated somewhere North in
Euroland.
Over the mast few months, the USD has lost something like 30% of its value
against the euro.
You could probably find some discount shop here or there, but they will
probably have experienced the same rise in their price.

So if you want a cheap Polar there are not so many options:
- either you move to Europe to start earning real money
- or you stay in the US and you try to influence the Euro/USD rate. But if
your name is not Bush or Bernanke, there is nothing much you can do for
that, except voting consequently next year.

I was just thinking that the 2nd option was more convenient.

Now THAT is some advice I can use :-) thanks.

The problem is I can buy two or three timex HR montiors for what I pay for
one polar.

I agree with your opinion of the US monetary policy. It is not mistake the
dollor has dropped and the US stopped publishing money supply in the Wall
Street Journal. The only reason I can see for this policy is to make it
more cost effective for foreigners to buy from us, which is what is starting
to happen. I have of many trips from UK to New York for Christmas shopping
and Disney World vacations.

You left one option out - invest in non-dollar demoninated currencies. That
way you get a double boost, investment appreciation and currency
appreciation.
