Need new race shorts.. any suggestions?

After two unsuccessful purchases, I need new Tri-race shorts. Any
suggestions?

I tried Pearl Izumi's: they had a spandex covered cycling pad that left my
crotch blistered and raw and I was walking bowlegged for a week Next I tried
DeSoto's: the flat lock seams around the pad tore me up. Maybe my crotch is
just too tender for the sport... any suggestions appreciated...

I like the Zoot tri shorts. I use them for most of my training, but have yet
to race in them.

Also, don't be afraid to use some body glide anywhere that you have
previously chaffed..Happy racing,

The flat stitch can be a problem, but not peculiar to DeSoto. It has the
advantage of minimizing the seam "hump", but the stitching is often a coarse
polyster.

I have experienced the same with Performance branded cycling shorts. The
weight of their stitching is practically like fishing line and the knots are
tied off in several places where they come in hard contact with skin.

Perhaps the "sawing" is a result of needing to try a smaller size(?). Too
much movement?

I also recommend trying lubrication (Bodyglide, etc.).

You didn't mention if you had one of those "male equipment" oriented bike
saddles. Sometimes the edges of those are the real culprit. Just a
thought...

I'm not a guy but when I was having trouble with saddle sores I eventually
realized at least part of my problem was my saddle height (too high) and my
position on the bike.....the way I was riding was putting too much pressure
on my bottom and not enough on my arms and feet......it's a long shot but
I'll throw it out there since you have gone through a couple pairs already
and getting so torn up.

Good luck,

Susan in LA
(assuming you are not doing triple-centuries or anything!!!)

Re: Need new race shorts.. any suggestions?

thanks for the tip. I had one of those middle-of-the-night, light-bulb
ideas: maybe it's the saddle? Then I read your message here... Yup... the
"male" slotted saddle works great with the bike shorts, but tears me up with
thinner padded tri shorts. After three brands of shorts, I realize it ain't
the shorts after all... oh well I have a few spares... I like the Garneau
the best
