I'm doing my first triathlon (just the swim - it's a team event) in a
fortnight or so, and had been planning to keep up my current 1km a day until
The Day, but my wife who rcently did a 10K run says her teacher told her to
take a few days off before the event, to 'build up some reserves'. Does this
make sense?

one day off 2 days before the race. Too much time off will leave you flat
the day of the race.
There are some great online taper articles online to take a look at. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Since you are doing "just" the swim you may not need to rest too much.
Thanks for responding. Also for the inverted commas round the 'just' ! I
have to say, the full mile didn't feel very 'just' to me when I completed
it - this is my first attempt at anything like this. I think the taper
articles are really aimed at rather more 'contender' type contenders than
myself, but I shall take on board what you say about taking a day off.
Cheers. Alan.
