I've had a Forerunner 301 and just upgraded to a 305. It is definitely
worth the investment if you are into tracking your workouts. The
software you use also is important. Sportstracks is an excellent FREE
software package that will let you consolidate all your workouts (I
download my indoor Polar workouts as well). (I have no affiliations
with this package).

It is interesting comparing the 301 to the 305 - the 305 records a
significantly more data points than the older 301. It make the data
recording much more accurate.

Hope this helps...

I use my 305 religiously!!!

Fantastic Metrics for after the events - however, I do not use it
during the swim...

I used my 301 on all my race swims. The data it recorded (other than
time) was meaningless, but I didn't have to put it on in T1, so the
time savings was worth it.

I'm hoping that the 305 is as waterproof (I haven't researched it yet,
but I've seen people use it in tri's).

The 305 is great, and I bought mine here

It's the cheapest price I could find. Also, make sure you get the $60
cadence sensor. Another useful item is the Bike to Wrist Quick Release

It replaces the standard band, and will save you a lot of time in T2.

Good Luck.
