Newbie HRM question

All
I am entered in a half ironman in June. I started using a HRM for the
training and love it. I actually think I am addicted to it.

The question(s)-should I use it during the race? I feel that it would
keep me from going out too hard on the bike. Would it be better to
just go out and use perceived exertion and not over-think the race?

I come from a running background, and never considered using a HRM for
a race. I always thought it a bit funny to hear that beep-beep as I
passed a tiring runner. Kept waiting for them to blow up.

Thanks,

Chuck

Unless you think it will be a distraction, it can help keep you from blowing
yourself up.

You know your personality and tendencies. Just experiment over time.

I fried my Timex at Gulf Coast last week. Sand got stuck in the buttons
while helping the kids with a sand castle. Then, came the seawater - -
bye-bye HRM...

I tend to err to the side of overexertion, so I went to the Expo and picked
up the bottom-of-the-line Polar for $45. If it was a short race, I would
have saved my money.

Re: Newbie HRM question

I have used the HRM during races and use UltraCoach to manage the data.
Perceived
exertion is difficult to manage in competitive events... hence the
speedometer
Have used them for nearly twenty years.
