It's a bike. Ride one. If you like it and can afford it, buy it. Buy it
from a shop.
Please forgive me for being abrupt, but any opinion is just that. Similarly
magazine and internet reviews are next to useless. So much depends on how
the thing is set-up and you that anyone elses view of the same thing is
meaningless. Find a good shop. Take them biscuits!
non troll opinions please. If you don't have anything to
say remaining silent is the wisest thing to do.

Troll? No. How is telling you the truth trolling?
Troll question in the first place, maybe. Top-posting is considered by some
to be bad form.

Since when asking for people's opinion and experiences about a 2K+
product is a troll ?? Stop making a fool out of yourself. A student
with -10K a year income cannot simply afford not asking before shelling
out that much money.
You didn't tell me the truth, just your personal and somewhat biased
opinion about reviews, since when that is truth ?
If the reviews have not worked for you don't generalize it to others,
and don't prescribe them with your own shopping methodology. As I said
if one feels like not contributing to a discussion, simply not answering
to it is the best option.

I am merely suggesting that you should form your own opinions by trying out
the fairly expensive product. How is that foolish?

You can afford NOT riding before shelling out that much money? Would you
buy a suit without trying it on?

If you want 'personal and somewhat biased opinion', read reviews.

The biscuit bribe is the only part that's 'methodology'!

I was offering you what I sincerely believe to be useful advice. I could
have given you any number of opinions on the Dual, as originally requested.
I'll save you from that. If you want more useful information you might want
to describe you and your usage (height, weight, mileage, type of event,
current times etc)
By the way, slagging-off your only respondant might not be the slickest
policy.

Skippy offered very real advice. Maybe it wasn't the detailed product
review you were looking for, but it absolutely wasn't a troll.
Think about it this way. If you walked up to a real person, and asked them
what they thought about the Cervelo Dual, and they said, "Well, the bike is
OK, but what really matters most is how the bike feels to you when you're
riding it," would you insult them and walk away?

On top of that: it's not only the bike and the rider, it's also the guy your
going to buy it from and who is going to maintain it for you. It's more or
less like the second hand car salesman. Would you buy a car from this man?

When somebody asks a question, it certainly has some background before
it is asked. put it this way, I ask a question about people's experience
with this particular bike, which is a very common approach for buying
anything IMHO, This is my way of shopping and I have done it for my
computer, digital camera, running shoes,..... Instead, my answer was a
sarcastic tutorial about how to buy a bike. Leave these types of answers
for the questions along the lines of "How should I buy a bike", or
"what is the best way to buy a bike".
FYI, I already knew that the Dual is "a bike" and I had already ridden
the bike along with several other bikes in some store. I am sure you
don't think that every possible design flaw or discomfort shows itself
in a 10 minutes ride.
What amazes me is that a very simplest question was answered with
sarcasm and then others are supporting it too!!!.
Endurance athletes are supposed to be helpful, encouraging, and down to
earth. At least those that I have met in person were like that.
I remember getting blasted for "personal" posts on this site. Actually, individual encouragements. The news feeds reveal that we actually belong to a great forum with a more family like feel. Thanks to my Triweek family.
35 days to the dance (which actually means only 20 days to taper!!!).

Skippy was being an @ss. He didn't offer very good advice. He told him to ride it once and buy it if he liked it. He also assumed because he was asking a question that he had never ridden the bike. He came with an attitude of superiority. He said reviews, etc. where useless, which may be the case for him, but not the majority of people hence the ability for those things to sell.
If skippy doesn't need advice and has this strong opinion that everyone else should figure things out for themselves and not rely on others experience, maybe he should quit hanging out on newsgroups.
I think what Ali was trying to say in his accusation of troll is that if you have never ridden the bike and don't really know anything about the bike, he doesn't really need to here about your personal opinion on other people's opinion.
As for insulting strangers, if I talked to someone in real life like skippy did Ali, I would hope someone would smack me.

I was suggesting that a good dealer might just know a thing or two about the
products they sell. Test riding and set-up are more important than someone
else's opinion.

I have re-read my post, just to check, and I am not being rude. Perhaps
that's how you read it, but I was not. Calling people an '@ss' is.

Maybe if you delete the first 3 sentences of the first paragraph and
the first 2 of the second then you are not being rude. And I will
agree that the first two sentences in the second paragraph where more
stupid than rude, unless you are the A#1 expert, and know everything
there is to know about the subject.
I know that my post was rude, just like this one. Rude posts are far
more entertaining than sincere helpful ones, but you shouldn't really
try to disguise rudeness as helpfullness.
