Denver/Boulder bike shop

Hello,

I moved to CO several years ago and hung up the road bike for a mountain
bike. I am now interested in getting back on the road bike but it is set up
for flat land riding, aero bar shifters, etc. I have tried riding the hills
in that position but not a good idea. I would also like suggestions on
gearing for riding hills. Most of my riding will be up in the mountains
where I live. I am not very powerful on hills as I was a flat-lander before
moving. I travel down to Denver and Boulder quite often and was wanting a
recommendation of a reliable bike shop to change out the shifters, bars,
etc. All the shops in my area (ski town) cater to mountain bikes. Thanks
much!

Janie, I live in the area and if you get to Boulder often the shop I recomend is Bicycle Village on 28th and Pearl, the people there are very nice and helpfull, no mater what type of bike you have the mechanics there are really good.

IMO for training, you need a wide range of gears. If you're really new to
hills, You might even want a triple chainring on your training bike. If you
have the standard setup on the front chainring (something like 53/39), get
as big an easy gear as you can in the back. I'd never ride with anything
less than a 25 tooth easy gear available. If your deraileur supports larger,
go with a 28. If you're out on a long ride and you don't have an easy enough
gear to fall back on if you bonk, you'll toast your legs.
