Tri Train In Limited Environment

I'm beginning training for my first triathlon (Wiles Barre Aug 7/Olypic
Dist). However, I'm currently deployed in Iraq. I have access to
treadmills, stationary bikes, lots of weight-lifting equipment and
about a 1-mile outdoor running loop. I am schedule to get back to the
states in July at which point, I plan to focus heavily on swimming.
What can I do in the meantime to best improve and prepare? Thanks.

Having been deployed myself, I know very well the limitations that are placed on you due to security concerns, duties, details etc...however, exercise is the best way to break up the "down time" that you have. Sounds to me like you are using all of the resources that are available to you. Be prepared for acclimation issues that may affect you when you get back. You're going to be used to scorching heat, and it is not going to be that hot when you get back. I would say about the only thing you can do is work on endurance. Obviously you can't do any swimming, so maybe concentrate on the muscles that you will use during the swim, like shoulders, triceps, lats, and maybe some back and stomach exercises to give you a solid base. Good luck with the rest of your tour, I know you've been through a lot, so use this experience to help you in your triathlon competitions.
