I will be in south Florida next week and I'd like to know if anyone
knows of some good roads for biking. Specifically, I'd like to know
of any decent roads in or near the Keys, Everglades, or Miami.
Thanks.
Well, I lived in Central Florida for 6 years and there were good and bad,
mostly bad roads for riding. My experience was that most drivers didn't do
well with cyclists, especially the octogenarians.
The only thing in the Keys is highway one, very heavily traveled.
The Everglades, expect to suck down lot's of bugs and take lots of water.
Miami, I can't speak specifically but it is a metro area with WAY too many
cars and people that can't drive them.
Anyone with better info?
I would suggest searching online for biking clubs and routes.
Good luck.

I rode some down in Fort Myers/Cape Coral/Naples area last two
years. Did some hundred milers with a bike club out of Fort Myers area
and rode down and back to Naples through I think it was Bonita
Springs. And rode some 25 miler type rides with a bunch of pretty
swift riders out of Naples. They rode early most days and had days of
18+ MPH rides to I think it was 28+ MPH. I did a 22 MPH type day ride
and they dropped my when they started the sprint zone. Never saw most
of them again. *S* Have to say I enjoyed it muchly though.
Certainly were NO hills in those areas. But traffic really wasn't
scary. In fact enjoyed it and didn't really remember paying much
attention to the traffic.
I do typically ride in southern Virginia area and Northern North
Carolina and there ARE hills here and traffic certainly is lighter.
Got some good wind training in Florida since there were good winds
most of the time when I was down there in March.
Enjoy.

I hear there is a large group that hammer it pretty good up the east
coast of Florida .... I think riding up the coast out of Fort
Lauderdale or West Palm Beach area.

Rode near Fort Myers and Naples area. Enjoyed the riding. Guys ar
Naples were quite a fast riding group of guys. They dropped me at the
sprint zone after about 20 miles of riding with them. I think that was
the 22 MPH average day. I didn't even attempt the 28 MPH and above
average day.
Did a hundred miler with the Fort Myers riders and enjoyed it
muchly. Traffic was not a problem at all and felt very comfortable on
the ride.
There were NO HILLS though that I could see. *S*
