Philadelphia swimming pool recommendations

I will be in Phila on business for a few days this week and need to get in
some workouts while I'm there.... can anyone recommend a pool that offers a
daily fee option that I could visit? I thought I remember a place off Broad
street called the Philadelphia Sports Club but can't seem to find them on
the net.... Im staying downtown.

Any help would be appreciated... thanks in advance.

and plug in "Philadelphia" and "PA" and the first listing is the
downtown Y. I've never used it, I confess, but I did look it up as
possibility once. Now that my parents and their health club membership
are moving out of Philly, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has used
this Y lately and how the pool is.

Re: Philadelphia swimming pool recommendations

....unless you live in one of the states mentioned by the following
swimmersguide.com statement:

<<The states of Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada. North
Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah have all passed so-called
"Defense of Marriage" amendments to their state constitutions by
popular vote and have, therefore, been deleted from the Swimmers Guide
database.>>

Note that Pennsylvania is not among the states listed for exclusion of
this site. Presumably, you will find the Philadelphia info you seek
there.

swimmersguide.com, it's not just an athletic site, it's a political site
too!

Re: Philadelphia swimming pool recommendations

If you stay at the Hyatt (which was once the Bellview) on Broad Street
you can use the Sporting Club which has a big pool right next door.
I've been told the 12th Street gym has a pool which accepts day
customers.

Wow, How disappointing is that! My first reaction was that your post
was an April fools delayed in the post... I'd never heard of the
defense of marriage amendments and still don't see the connection...
unless its really true about guys in Speedos... I always thought that
was a cheap joke by people that can't get into them...

I'll have to rethink my swimwear strategy..

I fouind it hard to believe as well - until I looked! The folks who
are being hurt are the folks who want good swim information.

Re: Philadelphia swimming pool recommendations

Yeah. They basically pissed in the pool. ; )

I have problems with the whole Defense of Marriage initiative "thing",
but I question how well targeted their demonstration is.

That is, they don't seem to want people outside Alaska to be able to
locate swimming facilities there, because a majority of Alaska voters
have a view of marriage that is inconsistent with their own opinion or
bias.

Personally, I have my doubts that it is that principled. If you read
their FAQ's, it seems that the keepers of the site never pass up an
opportunity to advise all of how hard they work and how little payback
they get.

I am disappointed because I made several contributions that have now
been discarded. I guess that will reduce their workload a bit. Over
time, I hope we can all get over it.

Yeah, like you I made a number of contributions, some of which are now
gone. I've emailed Bill to see if I missed something... I found Bill
always willing to debate things in e-mail and always quite affable.

I'll encourage him to post here or if not, re-post his response. ++Mark.

Thats a good question and one I don't know the answer too. What I do
recall was that when I started reading posts here, back in about 2000 I
think, a pointer to the FAQ used to get posted from time to time. I
just checked and its still out there, although it doesn't seem to have
been updated since June 2003 so maybe rst doesn't have an FAQ
now-a-days.

At least when I google rst FAQ its the first result I get back, which
takes you to this link: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
