Rock N Roll Half in Macon -- Is it a really hilly bike and run?

After visiting my brother this past summer, he told me that there was a big
triathlon that was held in Lake Tobeskofee, directly behind his house. From
the back yard, I can see directly across to the beach where the swim leg
starts. I know that there are a lot of rolling hills in the area, but I
never went over and looked at the actual run and bike course, before I came
back up to Iowa. I didn't know the name of the race or the distance but now
I know it's the Rock and Roll half-iron and it's held in June. I'd like to
know if I have to put in a lot of hill work for this race since I won't be
able to see the course until I come down there for the race this Summer.

Thanks,

Aaron

Aaron,
Yes it is hilly, and then some. I did all my training in the Atlanta
area, and Rock and Roll Man was tougher than anything I had seen on the
south side of Atlanta. It had a bunch of not too steep rollers, and
2-3 long steep climbs. At the top of one, there was a fire tower.
Figured it had to be the highest place around, and sure enough, we went
on a 40 mph descent for several miles to the next town. Then back to
the climbing again.

The run is going to be different this year, but last year it wasn't
terribly steep compared to the bike. The temps in June will get you
more than the hills on the run. Be prepared for mid 90s. We got a
break last year: the day prior to the race the temperature was 101,
race day was around 87 (by the time I finished).
It is a great race, and well staffed by volunteers.

Regards,

Chuck

Aaron: I will be doing this triathlon - it's my first half IM. I plan to ride HWY 42 (the really hilly section of the ride) a good bit in preparation for it. If there's anything you want to know about it let me know and I'll answer your questions as best I can.
