In general, what are the time limits for the various events - and the
various distances?
For example, an Olympic distance Tri - with a 1.5k swim, 40k bike and
10k run... If I don't swim the 1.5k within x minutes, then I'm
disqualified. Are these time limits up to the race promoter, or are
they set by the USAT?

I believe they vary from race to race. Check with the RD for the race
you're looking at.

It's up to each Race Director and will vary from race to race.
Some series, M-Dot Ironmans for example, have very similar, if not
identical time limits. The limits at IMCanada are the same as Lake
Placid, which are the same as IM Fla, etc.
The time limits are usually set by the race organizer, so you're going to
need to contact him/her for that info.
