Uh... New Balance... but MAN is that a matter of personal choice (not to
mention foot type, pronation, stride, weight, typical training volume,
terrain, etc. etc). If you haven't already, go to a GOOD running-specific
store and ask them to help you choose what's right for you.

I know you didn't ask, but I started running when I weighed 250 and did
literally 2 miles a week. Now I'm 190, do at least 18 miles a week, and
just finished my first IM. I've NEVER had a foot, ankle, or knee problem -
not even a blister. I give total credit my local running shop who showed me
the way (Front Runner in Columbus, Ohio).

Re: What brand running shoes?

I agree with John: Go to a GOOD running store - NOT a general athletic
store, and NOT a shoe store like Foot Locker. I mean something like
your local Fleet Feet ( [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ) or similar. Maybe your
town has a local running club - find out which store those folks
recommend.

They will look at the shoes you have now to see tread wear patterns,
they will get you up on a treadmill to see how you run, and then will
recomend the shoes that are best for you. Don't skimp in this area -
running long distances in poorly fitting shoes can cause serious
problems. Expect to pay between $80 and $130 or so.

BTW, I have been very happy with my Saucony Grid's.

YUP only go to a running-specific store. At the big super sorts stores
you'll hear "Dude this is a really great lookin' shoe."

I wear New Balance 880... the only shoe that's right for me, and NB has
sizes to fit 4E feet (yo can find NB on web, etc but to get the right
shoe go to a runners store)
