During my last swimming session yesterday, I tried many new drills to
improve technique. When I got out of the pool, I realized that I have a pain
in the back muscle between my neck and shoulder (what's its name?). So,
while I was doing my strecthes I skipped the ones that would hurt the
muscle. Today the pain is still there. I think it will be gone in 2 days'
time.
My question is whether I did right in skipping the related strecthes. What
do you do when you know that some muscle will hurt tomorrow? Do you stretch
it delibaretly or do you take some other caution?

I'm not the most disciplined stretcher myself, but I would think some
gentle stretching while the muscle was still warm would be very beneficial.
That's my advice if the muscle in question is hurting because of a hard
workout. If you think it's hurting because of a pull or tear, that's a
completely different story, and stretching might cause further injury. A
pull or tear is going to hurt for much longer than a day or two, though.
