I was daydreaming about trying to line up a sponsor, mostly for ego. I
had a couple minor sponsors when I roadraced motorcycles but have no
idea what it's like in this sport.
I'm definitely not a front runner and I'd probably whore myself out for
a few Gu packs and the chance to name drop a sponsor. Anyone know what
tri sponsors expect and what they give in return?

I would not waste my time - sponsors give free product - (Big deal) I
used to get 50-100 Gu's per year - i guess it is cool to get free
stuff not i would not work too hard to get it - The so-called sponsors
just want someone who has some decent results from the previous year.
When i hear triathletes talk about their sponsors it just makes me
laugh because I know all they are getting is free stuff that is worth
about nothing. If you could get a bike or wheels - now we are talking
- but until you are top ten at Kona, those aren;t possible.
