cycle injury?

I am sometimes getting some pain just below the kneecap after 20 miles
or so (hilly) on the bike but, surprisingly, everything seems fine on the
run. Anyone have any experience of what could be the cause of something
like this?
Don.

do you push or spin gears?

try uping your cadence instead of pushing gears so hard, it puts much
stress on your knees. Also if your cleats are set too forward on your
shoe sole that leverage will strain your knee. I'm assumng that the
rest of your bike fit is correct, otherwise there are a lot of things
that can affect your knees (seatpost to high or low, need more float in
pedals, etc.)

Re: cycle injury?

yup, I agree with the cadence and position thing. a long time ago I
bought pedals with too little float (not much room for left-right
movement) and my knees were killing me. Faster cadence vs. harder
pedaling also helps my back pains.

Thanks for that guys. Think you are probably right; I've been pushing
bigger gears to try and improve leg strength but maybe I'm too weak to
get stronger!? Living in Wales U.K. I don't get much choice about not
doing hills(!) but I'll try spinning a bit more. Cheers, Don.
