Tri Book Recommendation

Sorry if this has been posted a million times before.

I'm looking for a reasonably advanced multisport book that spends most of
its time talking about training. I've picked up a few in book shops, and
most of them seem to cater for the 'couch potato wanting to do a sprint tri'
crowd, which is fair enough, just not applicable to me (competitive runner,
ex-competitive swimmer, pants at bike!). Though I am new myself (no tri
races yet), I'm looking for something with specific swim drills, hill work
for cycling, etc, and less of the motivational waffle.

I took a quick glance at 'Serious training for endurance athletes', which
looked OK - anyone read this?

Many thanks,
David

Re: Tri Book Recommendation

Id suggest

The Triathletes Training Bible - Joe Friel
Endurance Athletes Edge - Marc Evans

You can find both on Amazon

Re: Tri Book Recommendation

If you are trying to train for a longer distance (half-ironman, ironman),
I really liked Gordo's "Going Long". It has an excellent section on
Nutrition. Much loved that book.

Good luck with the bike (I truly think that once you can't get off your
bike is the point when "its time" for an IM or 1/2 IM).

cheers
-aV

I use the Triathlete's Training Bible by Joel Friel. The pro is the book covers everything that you would want to know and then some. The con is that the book is somewhat technical and dry. I've heard others complain that it spends too much time on the mechanics of triathlon, but not on the mental/psychological aspects. I haven't read all of it yet, so I can't comment on that. Either way, I'd still give it a thumbs up.

Re: Tri Book Recommendation

Thanks all - on the strength of that, I'll order the Training Bible from
Amazon.

aV - I'd love to do an IM / HIM, but my recent stress fracture tells me that
I'll have to spend a long time working up to it!!

Thanks all,
Dave

Re: Tri Book Recommendation

I'll second The Training Bible and add "Training Plans for Multi-Sport
Athletes" as another great book for plans specific workouts. Got both on
Amazon for under $15 each.
