Did the hurricane cause any disruption?

I was mentally committed to this race but bailed after I
found out that my "frequent flier" miles couldn't get me any
closer to Shreveport than 250 miles.

not at all---not even wind. it was really a good race, nicely done, very
hot---but that was expected. i got there wednesday in the late afternoon and
it was hot and sunny from then until i left sunday morning.
the red river was a good swim---and even though they lengthened it a bit to
account for the current, we had no current. some of us swam about a half mile
down, then back on thursday, and i really couldn't tell much or any difference
in ease or difficulty. the water was 84f.
all in all, i thought it much better than last year, had a very good time,
and came away with a good feeling about it.

Was the swim a "down and back" course? If so, why would they need to
lengthen it to account for a current? You'll swim a slower average speed
going with a current and then against it than you would with no current
at all (in the same way you go slower running and biking if you're going
up and down hills than on the flat, or with and against a strong wind).

no---from upstream to downstream. we did the down-then-back-up swim two days
before, just to check it out.
