| Iron Training So I thought I'd update my TA group (that’s Triathletes anonymous), on my training progress. By the way, everyone on this forum is in the TA!
Hi, my name is Scott and I’m a triathalete… (Isn’t that the way we’re supposed to begin?)
My training is SOOOO derailed. I’m signed up to do the Great Floridian Iron Distance Race in Oct. I feel way under prepared and there’s less than 6 weeks left to taper. I haven’t ridden a century in more than 8 months. My longest run has been 14~ miles. These malice’s are not due to poor planning, just life in the way of training. I have not swum more than 2000 meters nor have I practiced my Nutrition Plan. Things are looking pretty bleak for this year’s race.
So… Do I resign? Quit? If I were some sort of “other” athlete, perhaps. But I’m not a “regular” athlete. I’m a Triathlete. More than that, I’m an Ironman! For that reason, I can say “Scott, enough of the pity party! Grab your shoes and let’s get it on!”
Time will remain an obstacle for me right up to taper so to replace distance, I’m going to have to do a lot of speed work. This primarily on the bike because the knee is beginning to bother me again when running :(. That’s easy here due to the hills (speed doesn’t increase but intensity obviously does). I hate this type of training. I’m not a “pain junkie” but I’ll do what it takes.
So… that’s where I am. The diary has me at 350 miles for the last 4 weeks. Not really enough to compete in an Ironman but as I’ve said before, “If triathlon were easy, they’d call it football”.
Race On!
