Bad training ride turned good

I figure I get a ride in after work today with another club member. First, I pulled the valve too hard when airing up pre-ride, so there went my spare.

After changing the tire I had to TT to the meeting point, get there, cant find him. Call his house, he's eating dinner So looks like a solo tonight.

Not 10 miles into the ride, I run over a spark plug and blow my second one. Holes too big for the patch kit. I call my girlfriend to pick me up, take the wheels off and stand there like a jerk in the Cardiff State Beach parking lot.

I get off the phone and notice a car stopped behind me, the guy rolls down his window and ask if I need a lift back home. I said "thanks, but I got someone coming" , I walk up to the door and almost had a heart attack.

Normann Stadler I guess had just got done with a training run and stop to see if I needed help. At first I thanked the good samaritan, then congratulated him on IM04. He said "Thanks! but, its 2005 now!". We talked about races, bikes (Kalibur), Nice guy. Kudos to Normann Stadler, made my night and I forgot my flat, both of them.

Well, Definitely appreciate lifes coincidences. woohoo

Should be more pro sightings now that camp pendelton is open to civilians and the former Wednesday rides are now the new tuesday rides. I heard Jurgen Zack is organzing it around his training schedule so a old school Wednesday ride might be back in effect as well if people just keep showing up every week.

This year San Diego got hit with a wicked rain season that put everyones training schedule indoors for a momment. Hope this Socal weather is here to stay!

On a side note, did the Desert Triathlon this past Sunday. Swim is calm but the lake is dirty and you start by swimming east with the sun hiding the buoy. Bike was flat little rough spots where it feels like euro cobble stones but no biggie, most rides were working together when the scooters werent aournd ;). Run was mostly sand for a 10k and REALLY HOT.

All in all a good training race, first SBR race of the year (instead of RB S in a pool). Main and longest race of my season is Honu Half. My 2 cents
