I will be touring the U.S. in 2009 and am interested in finding interesting and well-run triathlons that are off the radar. I am looking for races that offer beautiful venues, are unusually difficult, or provide anything else that makes them unique. Race length is not an issue. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Matt, if your looking for a great venue and a challenging hill climb during the ride you should check out the Peak Triathlon in July. It is held in Boulder Colorado and you need to register really early as it sells out every year but the registration dosen't open until Jan. 1.

Spike,

Thanks for the suggestion. Anything in Colorado sounds good to me. I did quite a bit of riding there while bicycle touring this year.

I'd love to find some of those little, undiscovered races that seem to be known to only local residents. There must be dozens all over the country that are well-run and challenging.
