As I am a new to Biking around town, I am looking for Bike Routes.
What I have been doing is following bike routes then following people who are
"lance- ing it" as my friends call it. I try to follow abour 25 yards away to make sure I'm not interfering with them.
Is this an o.k. practice. and who would you feel if you were being followed by some 24 yr old.??

Lancin It
Tri to Live - Live to Tri.
The Elevator is out of order. I'll take the stairs.

I'd think you should pace it up and chat with the party in front. I believe while there are a few who might be offended, the majority of cyclists are friendly and would be happy to give you some direction. Cycling is, after all, a social sport. I personally would slow down if someone follwed me for a period of time to see why they wern't pacing up to ride with me. ... that is if I wern't riding hard and even noticed they were there :)

I agree with Scott. Catch up, explain your situation, ask if you can tag along. Most people will be quite willing to have some company. If not they will let you know. I've done this, and had people join me a few times. Great way to meet people with similar interests as well!

It is better to introduce yourself than to act like a route stalker....
Plus they might put you to work and force you to ride a faster pace....

I'm an avid cyclist and I can tell you that if you follow, follow close and if you do follow do expect to take the lead at one point. What every one else is saying is true, this sport is very social and if you look in the internet you can find local cycling websites with local rides. It took me about a couple weeks to find all the rides. Once you do it you always want to do it.
