i do a canoe/bike/run in northern minnesota for my tri, and i've been wondering, are there any weightlifting workouts that might simulate canoeing or improve on the muscles used when canoeing?

I guess it might be prudent to ask if you're using a canoe or a kayak? In a canoe you'll use your arms and lats (in the back) more. In a kayak you'll use the the lower back, and stomach more. Any core upper body workout would work well for you. Vary your routines and don't forget to stretch! Good luck!

As with any other activity, Doing excercises that mimic the movements required as closely as possible. For canoeing. A lot of back work along with shoulders/abs/arms will do the trick!
