| When I got back into swimming after a four year layoff I could barely finish 500 yds. (20 laps). What I did is try to finish 500 yds. without stopping, then the next time I swam I added 200 more yds. Some days I would do sprints at the end of the workout. I started pulling 200-300 yds. some days and just built up from there. Whatever I set out to do that day I did no matter how long it took. I also wore swim fins for some of the workout to build up my leg muscles.
