    Running with kids

I had to laugh today. I got home from work at about 3:00 and my husband wasn't due home from work/gym until 6:00. I was feeling ambitious, so I told my kids to get their bike helmets on, and they were going for a ride while Mommy ran. Mind you, I have three boys, 9,6,and 5. They were so excited! Training with Mom! So, away we went. I was supposed to do a 10 mile run, but thought that 8 would be something they could handle a little better. And what normally takes me about 1:12 - 1:15 took 1:30. But, they were troopers! And halfway through, I stopped and got them a soda and a handful of Mike and Ike's. So, they were pretty happy and so proud! My 9 year old wants to go on more runs with me. It might have been a bit slower than normal, but I had a good time with them, and got my workout (sort of) in at the same time.

That is a good workout. The kids got moving, you were moving and with the Indiana heat, you got a break midway through. 10 miles is about max for my 5 year old. Really at 8 miles he is starting to slow with a 5 mile break. Now my daughter who is almost 8 has no problem with 10 miles. Maybe I will have to try that some day soon.

Now I am not sure about the soda and candy for the kids. Maybe a energy bar (should kick in when they get home) and some water.

IM, that's my kind of training! I'm way off the pace now beacuse my wife has gotten re-energized and wants to workout with me. If it adds an hour to my Ironman, so be it. I wouldn't trade an 8 hour Ironman for the chance to do what I love with those that I love!

You got it! And it puts them in the thought that they're "helping" me.

You never know, the tri bug just might bite them too, then the training will be even more enjoyable.

That sounds very nice. I don't have any kids myself, and my baby niece can't even walk yet.

Did you have to get them candy and soda, though? Couldn't you have got them V8 or something? ;)
