| Training for a marathon can be as hard as you want. What is your goal? Do you just want to finish, or do you have a time you want to run? How long before your goal race? As for mileage, I've run a marathon on 6 miles/week, and on as many as 100 miles/week. Paul Tergat was training at 150+ miles/week for the last 4 months, before he set his World Record. You'll get out of it what you put into it. So, how hard do you have to train? Only as hard as your goal.
