Nutrition is generally the weakest link in most athletic performance. Many athletes equate nutrition to diet and diet to weight loss or obesity. The truth is, poor nutrition may very well be the thing that is keeping you from winning or even finishing your races. The reason as is that most athletes train hard and often enough to burn through pretty much everything they eat. In many cases they may be getting too many or too few calories. Striking the optimum balance of intake vs. expenditure is tricky business. In my practice we provide resting metabolic assessments to determine just how many calories an individual requires prior to writing the meal plans for them. From this we can partition the appropriate ratio of carbs, fats and proteins to accurately provide what the body needs on a case-by-case basis. Try and avoid fad diets that have no foundation to them. The best investment you can make as an athlete is to ensure that the most important component of your game (your body) is cared for.
