Here is a tip for the Newbies! Before you start beating yourself to death on the road, take my advice and have a dual discipline VO2 max and Anaerobic threshold assessment done. Over the years I have found that the majority of the guys and gals I've tested have a vast differnce in working thresholds on the bike vs. the run. If you blow your cookies on the bike by training at too high a heart rate, your run will suck. The longer the course, the bigger the problem.
