Michellie Jones riding Giant

Newbury Park, CA--Michellie Jones, Olympic Silver Medalist, two-time World Triathlon Champion, and six-time Triathlete of the Year will be riding exclusively on Giant Composite road and ALUXX SL aluminum aero bicycles for 2003.

An extraordinary athlete with over 130 major triathlon titles, Jones actually contacted Giant in the USA after riding a TCR road bike. Says Michellie (prounounced “Ma-kee-ly”) “You need every advantage possible. The bike is a huge part of triathlon, and if I’m going to win, I have to feel good on the bike. It only took a few minutes on the Giant to know that it was the bike I wanted to ride and race.” Jones will train and race on stock TCR Composite and TCR Aero frames, with no modifications.

To prove her point, Michellie started her 2003 season with a Bang by winning the opening round of the Accenture triathlon series in Geelong, Australia January 19, 2003.

Racing her new Giant bike for the first time, Michellie cruised through the first race of the eliminator format, making the final easily.

In the Final Michellie exited the water with the leaders. On the bike leg there was a lead pack of five including Loretta Harrop (1999 World Champion), Barb linguist (2002 Triathlete of the Year and Niki Hacket (2000 World Champion).

The five leaders finished the bike to together, but on the the run Michellie soon showed her authority and only linguist was able to follow her pace. With one lap to go, Michellie picked up the pace, but linguist could not respond. Michellie won in convincing fashion over Linguist in second and Hacket third.
