| Administrator | Brazil's Basto wins Walt Disney World Marathon The Associated Press ORLANDO, Fla. (January 12, 2003 2:03 p.m. EST) - Adriano Basto of Brazil sprinted to an early lead and won the Walt Disney World Marathon by more than five minutes Sunday. The 24-year-old Basto covered 26.2 miles through the four Disney theme parks in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 33 seconds for his first marathon victory. His best previous marathon finish was fifth, and he placed 28th in the 2000 New York City Marathon, his only other race in the United States. Kenya's David Hinga was second in 2:23:40. Bea Marie Altieri, of Clermont, Fla., won the women's race in 2:53:10. Christine Snow-Reaser, of Dayton, Maine, was second in 2:59:01. |
