SAN FRANCISCO, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 1,800 amateur and professional athletes competed in the 27th annual Accenture Escape From Alcatraz(TM) Triathlon Sunday, June 3, with Andy Potts from Colorado Springs, Colo. winning the prestigious event. Top athletes from 36 countries competed. Featuring a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shore, an 18-mile bike and an 8-mile run through San Francisco, this race is considered one of the most difficult triathlons in the world and was named the number one triathlon by Inside Triathlon magazine in 2006.

Pip Taylor, Australia, time: 2:19:35
Third Place: Greg Bennett, Australia, time: 2:00:21

"The third time proved to be a charm for me this year as this was my third time participating in the Accenture Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and my first win," said Accenture Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Winner Andy Potts. "In 2005 I placed third and in 2006 I placed second so this was my definitely my year. This race is so challenging, the terrain, the course and the field of athletes; it really attracts the who's who of triathlons and I was thrilled I was able to perform well and hold off the other world class athletes to win this prestigious race."
