I decided to start training for triathalons last year. I have done two Sprint Tri's since last Sept. Both times, my calfs cramped up immediately after the bike and into the run. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a remedy or specific reason?
I have had the same thing happen when I run. I naturally have a long stride when I run and I noticed it most when I consiously tried to shorten my stride. I have been working on my overall running form and streching on a more regular basis. I also make sure I stretch the muscles on the bottom of my feet( don't remember the name of that one). It has helped quite a bit.
I recently read that there is no medical consensus on the cause of cramping in athletic events. Test's have revealed that potassium, sodium and other miracle minerals don't work. The only consistent indicator was effort level. Athletes who exerted themselves beyond the level they train at were more likely to cramp. There was no definitive solution.
