Icon7 Houston Guy Wants to Tri

I have no idea what made me start researching Triathlon, but now I"m hooked. I can't stop thinking about it. I've never done Triathlon before and I only have some experience in running. I was in the military, so nothing long distance. I've never biked other than goofing around on a BMX bike and I wouldn't call my swimming graceful. In my quest for ultimate fitness I've decided to start training for my first sprint triathlon. I'm married and a father of two with one on the way. I work fulltime as a Registered Nurse too so my schedule is a busy one. I just finished reading "Your First Triathlon" by Joe Friel. It was a great book with lots of good info. I'm here to learn as much as I can and hopefully meet some great folks that Tri in my area. I'm also documenting my journey on my new blog [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Thanks,

James

Re:

Hi James,

I just read your post and also took a look at your blog. I didn't see anywhere that you have picked out a race. I too am in Houston (Kingwood) and I've only done one Triathlon and that was last year's Try Andy's Tri in Sugarland. I can tell you one thing, the best motivator I had was knowing that I signed up and PAID good money to do the Triathlon. Once you choose it, you will have a goal to put on the calendar. So I highly recommend you choose one soon.

I just signed up last night for the Hi Fi Tri in Galveston (Moody Gardens) on October 25th. They're offering $19 tickets to Moody Gardens (1/2 off) so we'll make it a family weekend. I have 3 boys (ages 8, 5, and 3) and one more boy on the way.

Good luck
