Rep Power: | The Newest Noobie I just found this site and thought I'd start off by introducing myself. My name is Chad and I live in Houston, TX. I'm 11 days away from my very first Triathlon, and I'm nervous as all hell.
Well, that about covers it. I'll be asking some pretty stupid questions in here, but before I do, I'll surf the forums to see if anyone else has asked them first.
See you at the finish line. |

Rep Power: | Chad,
Welcome to the site and the sport of triathlon. Don't worry about the stupid questions, think of it this way, it's like starting a new job and you are just curious on how things are done around the workplace to conform and be more productive.
Don't be nervous, be as positive as you can all the way up to race day. That way your nervousness won't break you down and wear you out before the big day. Once you start, the time just flies by. Remember, go out there and have fun and accomplish your goal of finishing a triathlon.
Good Luck! |

Rep Power: | Hey Chad, good luck and remember to enjoy the day, the first race is always the one that sets your personal bar. Mine was a disaster but yours will be great, relax and do what you need to do, don't try anything new durring the race and you will be fine.
What distance is your race?
Best of luck.
Spike. |

It's a Sprint Triathlon - 300m swim, 10mi bike, 3mi run. Why was your first tri a disaster? |

Rep Power: | Last night I found your other post and wrote you a huge list of advise and when I went to post it the site said that I was not able to post??? Oh well here goes again, don't sweat the mt. bike, lots of people do races on them and more than a few are really fast on them. Only purchase a bike when you know you will be doing this for a while, and when funds permit. I have just finished my second season, and my first race 2 years ago I DNF'ed durring the swim because one of the guys on a jet ski made a huge wave and I sucked it in durring an inhale, you can read all about it in a post "A bad day for Spike". If you have trouble with the breathing, just do the breast stroke and sighting will be much easier as well. And the freaking out about the small stuff, make your self a list of equipment and such then pack your transition bag from your list.
Relax and have fun, next year do the same race and crush this years time!
Best of luck and let us know how it went.

Spike, thanks for the advice. I was just telling my wife the other night that I need to hold off on buying a bike because I wasn't sure if I was going to like triathlons. She just looked at me and said, "yeah right!"
To quote my good friend and 2x Ironman finisher David "Bouy" McCullough, "Welcome to the sickness." |
