Icon5 New to triathlons. I could use your help.

Hello everyone. I'm looking to start doing triathlons but I feel kind of overwhelmed with the ammount of info available. I have done 4 marathons in the past few years and just recently completed my best one yet in Ottawa (3:45 ). I've purchased myself an entry level roadbike, nothing fancy as i'm a hard working military member with the wife and a couple of kids, but it will suffice. What I really need is for someone to help guide me as to what I need to do to get ready for a triathlon, at least olympic distance for starters, sometime this summer. Any advice on training, events in the Ontario region, or kit I may need is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Eric

Welcome to the board and the sport.

As far as training goes, there are a lot of options out there. I would suggest a book and/or a tri club. Either one of these options would get you going. Beisdes a tri club, you could look for a swim club if you need help there. There are some basic triathlon training videos on youtube that will help you get through some of the basics.

There are a lot of options out there for baisc training plans (free) on the web, just search.

You are lucky, Ontario has a lot of triathlons to choose from. Here is a link for [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Asking specific question also is good...

good luck!

Sites:
This one, of course
beginnertriathlete.com
trifuel.com
trifind.com

There are several free training plans available on each of the sites listed above, best thing I have found is to pick an event about 12 weeks out, and work to the plan.

Thanks for your military service!

If you are interested I recomend the Subaru Triathlon Series.

They are very well organized and run events. I will be at all of them if you have specific questions.

Check out the site, and we can talk about helping you along!

Where do you live in Ontario?

Cheers
Syd
